Canada pulls off comeback against China
Thursday, 01 July 2010 23:22
The canada_fiestaCanadian National team staged an amazing comeback to beat China, 1 to 0, with a walk-off single, making it possible to keep its winning hopes alive in the fight for the gold medal in the 12th Softball Women’s World Championship.

After a hard triumph against Australia (3 – 2) earlier in the Friday afternoon, Canadians fought hard to win again. They deservedly won at the bottom of the seventh inning. Chinese batting force was absent in this game.

A Caitlin Lever double to left field produced the winning run, making the crowd thrill and cheer for the Canadians. Jen Yee was walked, and Sheena Lawrie hit a left field bouncing line drive, making Lever run fast from second base to home plate thus bringing Canada's winnign run, 1 - 0, and the people to a warm celebration.

Both teams had good pitchers: the starting pitcher of the losing team was Li Qi, whose relief pitcher –and finally losing pitcher- was Wang Lan in the fourth inning.

On the other hand, Danielle Lawrie was starting pitcher throwing a complete game to secure the victory.

Canada batted 8 hits, Caitlin Lever 2 for 4 and Jen Salling 2 for 3 and the winning run. Erin Cumpstone also 2 for 3. Chinese hit were connected by Zhou Yi and Lu Yi.
